We seek a Student Counselor who will support the academic and student development missions by providing comprehensive counseling services to a diverse student population. The counselor serves a diverse student body and collaborates with community agencies and university stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Provide individual and group counseling for personal, social, educational, and vocational concerns. Offer psychoeducational workshops and presentations on topics such as study skills, assertiveness training, stress management, and more. Conduct client assessments, develop outreach programs, and deliver crisis intervention, including on‑call coverage. Provide consultations to faculty, staff, and other personnel on student issues. Advocate for students by coordinating referrals to community agencies and internal university resources. Fulfill administrative duties: committee service, reporting, and maintaining department records. Supervise and train master’s level graduate practicum students and interns in counseling practices. Engage in professional development and stay current with trends in college student mental health. Perform related duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Advanced experience with individual and group counseling methods. Knowledge of program development, consultation, outreach, crisis intervention, and management. Effective interpersonal and collaborative skills with students, staff, faculty, and community partners. Understanding of developmental characteristics of late adolescence and young adulthood. Commitment to multicultural competencies and experience with gender/sexuality issues. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Qualifications Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field (doctorate preferred). Focus on sport and performance preferred; completed clinical training in practices such as personality, abnormal psychology, human development, crisis counseling, alcohol and substance use. Experience with student-athletes or performers in high‑performance environments. Strong skills in mental health counseling, crisis intervention, and mental skills training. Ability to collaborate across departments and engage in outreach initiatives. Licenses or Certification Required Full (unencumbered) licensure or eligibility for full licensure in North Carolina; consideration for sport psychology/counseling and performance consultation (CMPC) with clinical experience if not fully licensed.
