Position Summary The Commercial Lines Underwriter I is responsible for managing a book of property/casualty business, nurturing agency relationships to enhance customer experience, and maintaining underwriting discipline and program profitability. Essential Functions Analyze new and/or renewal business for program eligibility and price in accordance with program rate and retention targets. Adhere to Underwriter Authority Agreement and Service Standard Agreement. Develop and maintain strong interpersonal relationships with internal and external customers through professional and efficient customer service. Work efficiently and effectively in the McNeil Program. Gain understanding of ISO rules/rates, underwriting manuals and guidelines. Rate new and renewal business as needed. Comply with state insurance regulations (ODEN). Analyze and approve requested policy changes/endorsements. Assist insureds in mitigating risk through collaboration with Risk Management. Process cancellations, non-renewals, reinstatements as required. Familiarize with program-specific products and coverages. Provide support to colleagues when necessary. Gather market condition and competitor intelligence. Analyze underwriting reports for program profitability (e.g., contract expiration, referral, loss experience, pricing, retention). Foster a team environment among team members. Assist with special projects as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience preferred. AINS or CISR designation a plus. 1–3 years of underwriting or customer service experience with an insurance company preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical skills with attention to detail. Solid time management and organizational skills. Ability to prioritize and work independently. Compensation Base salary range: $50,000 – $60,000 per year. Total individual compensation, including base salary and short‑ and long‑term incentives, will consider factors such as geographic location, scope of responsibilities, qualifications, talent availability, and business needs.
