The country has more than 2miilion active small scale farmers who demand agriculture inputs every year throughout the 12 months. Most of the farmers are highly engaged in agriculture activities during rain reason. This implies farmers are engaged into production of mainly field crops such as maize, soya beans, beans, sunflower and other legumes. Much of these products demand use of fertilizers such as compound D(N10, P20, K10) and urea (46%).

The use of agro dealers in input distribution has worked so effectively in the districts. Zambia has more than 2000 registered agro-dealers and these provide a strong customer base as they buy in big quantities to service small scale farmers and a few large scale.

The country has more than 10 major suppliers of fertilizer, seed and chemicals such as insecticide and pesticides.
