Library Clerk II Opportunity

The City of Pomona Library has an exciting opportunity for a Library Clerk II who is passionate about community service and eager to make a positive impact in our public library. This recruitment is being conducted to fill two (2) current vacancies, and the resulting eligibility list may be used to fill future vacancies. This role will participate in the work of one or more Library Services units or sections, such as Library Patron Services, Information Services, and/or Youth Services. Part-time, hourly positions average 20 hours per week and less than 1,000 hours in a twelve (12) month period. Work hours will be approximately 20 hours per week (3 to 6 hours per shift). Must be available to work between the hours of 12 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., as scheduled.

Proficiency in handling various office equipment, including computers and cash registers, along with the ability to accurately process transactions and maintain records, is essential. This role also requires someone organized and dependable, capable of managing responsibilities such as compiling reports and handling library materials. A successful Library Clerk II will be proactive in creating a welcoming environment for all library visitors and contribute to the library's mission of serving the Pomona community.

Minimum Qualifications To Apply

Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of computer skills, money counting, and public interaction in a library setting.

Essential Duties

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist the public in making the most effective use of the library including answering directional questions.
  • Explain and demonstrate library policies, procedures and facilities to patrons.
  • Operate the circulation desk; check materials in and out.
  • Maintain statistics of library activity; search records and compile reports.
  • Collect fines and charges for damaged and lost materials.
  • Assist patrons in locating materials in the library and placing reserves on materials.
  • Process passport applications which may include taking passport photos, handling passport processing fees/postage and submitting required paperwork.
  • Operate a variety of office equipment, including computers and cash registers.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Special Requirements: Ability to stand, bend, stoop, lift above your head, and ability to push a cart filled with books.
